Barstow Community College (BCC) is an open-access, comprehensive two-year institution serving a diverse student population in the Mojave region of San Bernardino County, California. The College's campus is located in the City of Barstow, California, situated in California's high desert, between Los Angeles, California and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Established in 1959, the Barstow Community College District (BCCD) encompasses a vast service area, stretching from the Nevada border on the East to Kern County on the West, and from Inyo County in the North to the San Bernardino Mountain range in the South. BCCD serves the communities of Barstow, Lenwood, Newberry Springs, Daggett, Yermo, Hinkley, Ludlow and Baker. The institution also maintains a satellite learning center at the U.S. Army National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, California, which serves military personnel and their families.

Welding Contract work starting at $54/hr. Travel accommodations not be provided. The supervisor will be the Dean of CTE and Workforce Development. Hours are (tentatively) 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Training sessions are two weeks long and will occur on an ongoing basis.
Training will be organized in various levels, for example:
Level A (Basic) - Qualifies the employee in the flat plate position (1F &1G) for both SMAW and FCAW-G welding processes. This qualification covers groove and fillet welds on ferrous base metals only(plate and structural shapes) limited thickness of ?" to ¾". Level A also includes oxy-fuel gas cutting and heating; and plasma arc cutting.
Level B (Structural SMAW and FCAW-G) - Qualifies the employee in the flat (1F & 1G), horizontal (2F & 2G), vertical (3F & 3G with uphill progression), and overhead (4F & 4G) plate. This qualifications covers groove, fillet, plug, slot, and build up welds on ferrous base metals only (plate and structural shapes) having thickness ? inch to unlimited. Level B1 also includes air-carbon arc gouging / cutting, SMAW and FCAW-G fillet welds on socket type fittings used in air brake piping applications. "
Minimum Qualifications
Candidate must be able teach SMAW and FCAW-G welding processes as well as oxyfuel, air carbon arc, and plasma arc cutting. Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and/or D15.1 preferred.
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) credentials from the American Welding Society (AWS) and technical knowledge of railroad related tasks sufficient to lecture and instruct relevant hands-on exercises is highly preferred.
