Rising Sun Montessori is hiring an Afterschool Extended Care Assistant to support the Extended Care Lead in providing a safe, positive, and engaging afterschool experience for students. The Assistant will help supervise children, assist with activities, and support daily routines. The ideal candidate is dependable, enjoys working with children, and is eager to contribute to a collaborative and caring afterschool team.

Job Summary

The Afterschool Extended Care Assistant supports the Extended Care Lead in providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for students during afterschool hours. This position assists with supervision, activity implementation, and daily routines to ensure a positive experience for all children.

Key Responsibilities

Student Supervision & Engagement

  • Supervise students during afterschool hours, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior.

  • Assist in implementing enrichment activities, games, crafts, and outdoor play.

  • Provide homework support or quiet study time as directed by the Lead.

  • Help maintain consistent routines that promote respect, cooperation, and independence.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Support the Lead in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized extended care environment.

  • Monitor student needs and promptly report concerns or incidents to the Lead.

  • Follow all school safety protocols and assist in emergency procedures.

  • Provide basic first aid when necessary (training provided if not already certified).

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with the Extended Care Lead and other staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Communicate respectfully with students, staff, and families during pick-up time.

  • Support inclusion and accommodations for students with diverse needs.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with attendance tracking and organizing materials for activities.

  • Help ensure supplies are maintained and ready for daily use.

  • Participate in trainings and staff meetings as requested.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Child Development or Education preferred.

  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or recreational setting.

  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and able to work collaboratively in a team setting.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, approximately 2:45 PM – 6:00 PM (hours may vary based on school schedule and student needs).

Mind Day Wednesdays: 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
