OVERVIEW Under supervision, assist Certificated Teacher(s) in instruction and supervision of special education student(s) by providing for physical and instructional needs of student(s) with visual impairments in educational settings. Receive direct to general supervision from Certificated Teacher(s). Provide responsible support and follow-through activities as specified in students' Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). QUALIFICATION • A BA/BS degree or equivalent college level work with emphasis on specific courses in specialized areas • Ability to learn and demonstrate Braille required • Knowledge of the use of literary and Nemeth Braille for reading, writing, and translation preferred • Skills in adapting vocal quality coupled with articulation and ability to correctly read tests, worksheets, books, and other assignments which must be put on tape for students' use • Prior experience, paid or volunteer, with pre-school to school age students, teachers, and school personnel • Experience working with students with severe learning and emotional disabilities and/or equivalent experience. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES • Learn the physical requirements and/or specific needs of assigned special education student • Assist Classroom Teacher(s) and Visual Impairment teacher in implementing IEPs for students who are blind or visually impaired, including the completion of service delivery logs. • Assist the teacher with development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises. Includes preparation of Braille non-text materials such as worksheets, supplemental class handouts, report cards, tests and quizzes, daily notices, permission slips, lunch menus, maps, charts, etc. that will provide access to instruction for visually impaired students through the use of a computer or other methods • See more in the job description attached below.
