Teaching subjects like language arts, social studies, math, science, art, health, physical education, and music using a Board of Education-approved course of study that aligns with California Standards. Instructing students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other elements of the curriculum specified by state law and district procedures. Developing lesson plans and instructional materials, and providing individualized and small group instruction to meet each student's needs. Translating lesson plans into learning experiences to effectively use instructional time. Setting and maintaining standards for student behavior to create a functional learning atmosphere. Evaluating students' academic and social growth, keeping records, and preparing progress reports and report cards. Communicating with parents in a timely manner and holding conferences to discuss student progress and the school program. Identifying student needs and collaborating with other staff to help students with health, attitude, and learning problems. Creating a supportive learning environment with functional and attractive displays and bulletin boards. Staying professionally competent by participating in district-provided or self-selected professional development activities. Completing basic attendance accounting and business services as required. Administering standardized and other district-selected tests. Attending meetings, parent conferences, and evening school programs that require student supervision. Selecting and requisitioning books, instructional aids, and supplies, and maintaining inventory records.
