QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s degree in Art or college-level art courses preferred; • Practicing artists with experience working with elementary students preferred. SPECTRA ART TEACHER REQUIREMENTS: Artists who would like to be considered to join our team must submit the following documents: • Resume of related experiences; • Clear evidence of an ongoing artist’s practice, with a personal portfolio of 6-8 pieces, including work that demonstrates an understanding of painting and drawing skills. Becoming a Spectra Art Teacher involves the following commitments: • Minimum of 6 hours of teaching time; • Maximum 20 hours per week total, including prep time; • Approximately a 10-month work year; • Monthly professional development meetings which consist of 2-3 hours of professional learning with all Spectra Teachers • Participation in Youth Art Exhibit, PAUSD’s annual District Art Show Pathway to becoming a Spectra Art Teacher: • Introductory meeting with the Lead Teacher and VAPA Coordinator; • 10 hours of observation (unpaid) strongly encouraged; • District-mandated paperwork and fingerprinting; • 10 hours of paid training and curriculum preparation.
