General Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Administration, this Special Education Paraeducator is responsible for supporting and assisting students with disabilities in various school settings. This Special Education Paraeducator, consistent with the individual education plan (IEP) or individual family service plan (IFSP) assists the Special Education Teacher and Classroom Teacher with lesson plan preparation; one-on-one and small group instruction; classroom management; student observation and assessment; and communication with parents and staff.  This may include other paraeducator duties in regards to other students as well.  

Assignment: 
This position will report to the Superintendent/Principal. This is a full-time position. 

Salary: 
The hourly wage for this position is $19.34-$22.81 per hour. 

Location:
This position will serve Dixie School District in Dixie, Washington. 

 

Essential Functions/Other Functions

 

Essential Functions:  

  1. Assist the Special Education Teacher or General Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff, in a variety of school settings.

  2. Supervise students.

  3. Collect data and report student progress.

  4. Maintain accurate data collection records.

  5. Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.

  6. Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.

  7. Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.  This may include bathroom assistance and clean up.  

  8. Participate in staff meetings, Inservice programs, workshops and seminars.

  9. Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.


Other Duties:
  1. Assistance towards other students, classroom support, recess duties and other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
 

  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    1. Associated Degree; OR
    2. 48 semester/72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university; OR
    3. Passing score of 455 on the Para Pro Assessment; OR
    4. Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Online Training Program.
  3. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, over 35 pounds with assistance

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience in a special education classroom setting.
  2. Knowledge of programs and services for students with disabilites.

  1. Successful completion of criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
