Job Purpose Statement: The job of Preschool Instructional Assistant is done for the purpose of assisting the teacher in all areas of the preschool program including clerical duties. The assistant will be working with high school students as well as preschool age children.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists in the instruction of students in the classroom.
Assists the teacher in maintaining order.
Collects, assembles, files, and distributes resource materials.
Observes activities of the children in the classroom or playground.
Operates various audio-visual and instructional equipment in the classroom.
Prepares teaching aides as directed.
Prepares labels, charts, bulletin boards, and displays as instructed.
Records grades.
Takes role and record absences.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Performs related duties as required.
Job Requirements - Qualifications
Knowledge to perform basic math including fractions, percents, and ratios, to read a variety of manuals, write and speak distinctly, type correspondence, memos etc. usually in prescribed formats, reports, and/or speak before groups, and to apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions.
Skills to perform multiple basic non-technical tasks. Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operate standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records; and utilize pertinent software applications. Keyboard/computer literate.
Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that require significant coordinating of others person’s schedules and/or activities; discretion, independent action and/or judgment with regards to working with people, diversity of equipment and interacting with persons and/or agenda that frequently change. Specific abilities to adhere to safety practices; be attentive to detail; implement established curriculum; meet deadlines and schedules; and work under time constraints; motivate and work with students. Type 20 wpm.
Responsibility in relationship to people includes leading and guiding. The resources required (people, equipment, facilities) necessary to perform job functions are of a moderate scope and moderate opportunity exists for significant impact (positive or negative) on the organization’s mission.
Working Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an indoor/outdoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling; sensory speaking, hearing and visual.
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and 12 units of Early Childhood Education verified by submission of official transcripts with application.
Experience Requirements: Six months experience verified by a director in a licensed child day care center or comparable facility.
Licensing, Certification, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance. Will meet any and/or all Federal/State/District requirements
