THE POSITION: The Special Education Unit under the Division of Curriculum and Instruction provides leadership in professional development, resources, consultation, research and limited direct services to students through Vision Services. This is accomplished by collaborating with school districts, their students, their families, local agencies, and the community.

Requirements / Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: • Must hold a valid CA teaching credential authorizing service to pupils who are visually impaired. • An English Learner authorization/CLAD certificate or equivalency is also required. • Knowledge of behavior management systems. • Knowledge of current educational trends, core and expanded core curriculum and strategies for implementation as related to programs for visually impaired pupils. • Knowledge of state content standards. • Knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB) and Nemeth Code is desired. • Knowledge of the IEP process. • Must have the demonstrated ability to work effectively with professional and paraprofessional personnel and parents. • Applicants must be eligible for a valid A driver’s license.
