Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   
Responsible to Superintendent/Principal, planning and providing services to elementary and middle school age individuals with exceptional needs; provide diagnostic and therapeutic services and observe and monitor children’s behavior and development in their environment; present activities that are developmentally appropriate for the students and are specially designed to conform with the student’s IEP; interact and consult with family members, teachers, and other service providers, as needed; assist parents to seek and coordinate other services in their community that may be provided to their children by various agencies; assist in providing opportunities for students to develop self esteem, and to develop academic skills; assist in providing access to various developmentally appropriate equipment and specialized materials; provide parent counseling and training to help parents understand the special needs of their children; consult with family regarding family involvement activities; monitor and coordinate assessment and reassessment procedures, EIP meetings and pupil progress activities. GENERAL FUNCTIONS - Serve as the resource teacher for identified students, IEP planning, and providing services to school age individuals with exceptional needs; provide diagnostic and therapeutic services.
