Description of Position:

 

Los Medanos College seeks applications for adjunct professor of Social Justice Studies with an area of emphasis in Gender/sexuality studies. We seek an interdisciplinary teacher/scholar working in any historical period whose teaching and educational preparation engages the lived realities of race, gender, and sexuality. Ideally, the person who is hired for this position will be able to teach either fully face-to-face or hybrid instruction courses. Classes could include courses such as Introduction to Social Justice Studies, Introduction to Race and Ethnicity, Introduction to LGBTQ Studies, and Introduction to Gender Studies. Possible teaching assignments will be at the main campus in Pittsburg and the Brentwood Center with opportunities to teach dual-enrollment or even TRIO classes in the summer session. Applicants should meet the minimum qualifications in ANY of the following disciplines: 1. English 2. Ethnic Studies 3. History 4. Political Science 5. Social Science 6. Sociology 7. Women's Studies 8. Or the equivalent. If you do not possess the EXACT degree to meet minimum qualifications for the disciplines listed above, you must complete an equivalency form and attach it to your application.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;

2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;

3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;

4. meeting with students outside of class;

5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;

7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;

8. maintaining accurate academic records;

9. performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

 

EDUCATION: 

Master's in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, or American Indian Studies OR Master's in Ethnic Studies OR the equivalent

 

Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

Training in sexuality studies, LGBTQ+ studies, gender studies, and/or race studies. Flexibility with teaching fully F2F, hybrid, or dual enrollment classes.
