SECONDARY SCHOOL VICE PRINCIPAL/ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To be responsible for the counseling, discipline if necessary and rehabilitation of pupils referred because of serious behavior difficulties or emotional problems.
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
Directly responsible to Principal. Directly responsible for classified staff as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Makes appropriate disposition of pupils referred by faculty members, counselors, administrators and staff who are exhibiting serious personal, social, emotional or behavioral problems.
2.Counsels with parents and pupils experiencing difficulties and makes referrals to services available within the school district or the community.
3.Confers with representatives from health and welfare and the law enforcement agencies.
4.Make recommendations to other school administrators for consideration of part-day programs, exemptions, exclusions or expulsions for students with special problems.
5.Cooperates in the issuance of suspensions of pupils, informs parents of this action and arranges for the pupil’s return to school.
6.Reports to faculty members action taken regarding referrals and to plan jointly to avoid further difficulties.
7.Works closely with all counselors and coordinator of attendance to promote proper standards of behavior for all pupils.
8.Interprets to pupils and their parents Central Unified School District policies and procedures regarding discipline and school rules and regulations regarding student behavior.
9.Assists in supervision of conduct in assemblies and on school grounds.
10.Completes referral information from employers on former students.
11.Assists in coordination and supervision of boys’ and girls’ activities.
12.Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED
Directly responsible to the Principal.
NOTE: Assistant Principal has additional duties as assigned and work an additional 10 duty days.

• Master’s Degree, preferred
• A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience, five years preferred
• A minimum of three years of successful site-level administrative experience, preferred
• Demonstrated achievement as an educational leader with vision and strong interpersonal skills, including specific evidence of student academic improvement in a school setting as a result of the candidate’s leadership
• California Administrative Service Credential, required
