BASIC FUNCTION: Under the guidance and supervision of the New Teacher Support and Development (NTSD) team, the Teacher on Special Assignment (TSA) will partner with identified school sites to develop and implement coherent, effectively differentiated new teacher professional learning systems, that include access to weekly observation and coaching as a core component. This role is closely aligned with initiative four in OUSD’s 2021-2024 Strategic Plan, focused on the recruitment, development, and retention of a diverse staff. NTSD’s goals are to improve anti-racist teaching and learning in classrooms within OUSD, increase student achievement and teacher retention. The TSA will help site leaders to improve new teacher support systems, provide intensive coaching and mentorship to a caseload of new and early career teachers, and support the development of new teacher mentors through mentor professional learning, individualized feedback, and on-site coaching. The TSA will spend at least eighty percent (80%) of the time at focal sites. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: New Teacher Development & Support Partner with site leadership and central support teams to strengthen and implement new teacher professional learning systems that are appropriately aligned with site and district priorities and differentiated and responsive to meet new teacher needs; weekly observation & coaching will be core components of any growth plan Leverage site leaders expertise in high quality site-based new teacher support systems to strengthen and align districtwide strategies and supports Establish systems to consistently monitor and analyze progress toward stated goals; use data to inform strategy revision and improvement Provide weekly (or bi-weekly) observation and coaching to a caseload of prioritized new teachers to facilitate growth at a more rapid pace; mentorship will also be in alignment with CTC and District program expectations for Teacher Induction, Intern Support, and Emergen

Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years successful teaching experience and two years of successful new teacher mentoring experience Recent Participation in NTSD's Foundational and Advanced Mentor Professional Development Series (or relevant coaching and mentoring training) Current Clear California Teaching Credential (General Education or Education Specialist) CLAD or BCLAD certification/credential Specific authorization(s) may be required dependent on special assignment
