Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the assigned Cabinet Level Administrator(s) or designee, collaboratively works with the SELPA Director, Program Managers, and Program Specialists, under broad organizational guidelines to achieve objectives at the County and District level; may provide training and supervision to Mental Health Specialists with proper certification. The Mental Health Clinician will provide supportive and direct services to students with problem behaviors that interfere with academic performance and developmental progress, cause conflict with peers, community or family, and/or put the student at risk for placement in more restrictive educational settings, higher levels of mental health care and/or out-of-home placement. The Mental Health Clinician will provide Educationally Related Mental Health Services including: counseling, assessment, evaluation, and case management for students with special needs and their families; will provide consultation and training to teachers, paraprofessionals and parents; support the implementation of positive behavioral interventions conforming to the Hughes Bill and to IDEA. Mental health services may be provided at counseling centers, in student homes, at school sites and/or in the community.
