Job Summary

Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher serves as a temporary classroom instructor to ensure continuity of learning during the absence of a regular teacher. Assignments are limited to no more than 30 consecutive instructional days per classroom and are scheduled on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, the Substitute Teacher implements lesson plans provided by the teacher of record, maintains a safe and disciplined learning environment, and upholds the mission and values of St. Francis High School in the Capuchin Franciscan tradition. This position plays a vital role in supporting student learning, spiritual development, and the school’s faith-based educational philosophy. Duties and Responsibilities: • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to maintain instructional continuity. • Manage classroom behavior effectively and respectfully to ensure a safe learning environment. • Record and submit attendance accurately and promptly following school policy. • Communicate student progress or behavioral concerns to the teacher of record and the Dean of Faculty. • Maintain the structure, discipline, and moral standards consistent with Franciscan values. • Promote the mission of St. Francis High School by modeling faith, respect, and service. • Provide student supervision (homeroom, lunch, and events) as assigned. • Utilize technology and digital learning platforms (Google Workspace for Education, Blackbaud, GoGuardian) to support instruction. • Uphold confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions.

Requirements / Qualifications

Requirements / Qualifications Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree required; California Teaching Credential preferred. • Demonstrated classroom experience or ability to manage students effectively. • Proficiency in Google Workspace and digital teaching tools. • Successful completion of background check and VIRTUS training (required). • Experience in Catholic or faith-based education preferred.
