Semitropic Elementary School District Job Description: INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE Description: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans as required and support the development of specialized skills, including toileting and self-care training, as required. Major Duties and Responsibilities Tutor pupils individually or in small groups, assists in the preparation of instructional materials, operates electronic equipment, and participates in appropriate in-services. Observe and manage student behavior of students in the classroom and outside according to established policies and procedures; monitor students during outdoor and various other activities as assigned monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.Provide support in toileting training and other personal care needs for students as necessary, ensuring student dignity and independence.Collaborate with teachers to implement individualized plans for students requiring toileting support and other specialized care. Assist with the development of students' social and communication skills in relation to self-care activities. Essential Functions of this Position Provide toileting training and other personal care assistance to students as outlined in their individual educational plans (IEPs). Monitor and document progress in toileting skills, providing feedback to teachers and parents regarding student development. Assists instructional personnel with presentation of learning materials and in conduct of instructional exercise; Tutors individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow-up learning activities; Monitors and assists students in drill, practice, and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concep

Qualifications The person selected for this position must meet the following qualifications: Experience in or willingness to learn and implement toileting training techniques. Must be willing to undergo training related to toileting support and other specialized care needs. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License Must be NCLB compliant: completed at least two years of study in an institution of higher education, OR obtained an Associate’s Degree or higher, OR passed the paraprofessionals test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics; Have a warm and friendly personality; Be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others; Be able to relate well to children, families, and other staff; Be able to speak, read, and write English fluently; Ability to speak Spanish is desired, but not required Title I Paraprofessional Requirements These requirements apply to paraprofessionals who are employed at a Title I school, regardless of the paraprofessional funding (EC Section 45330, 20 U.S.C. Section 1112[c][6]) Title I paraprofessionals whose duties include instructional support must have: High school diploma or the equivalent, and Two years of college (48 units), or A. A. degree (or higher), or Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction. (This is a locally approved assessment. Local educational agencies may develop their own assessment or use an existing assessment so long as it measures the knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction. Many districts use the CBEST for this purpose). Local educational agencies may also have specific requirements for employment.
