About the Employer

With schools dating back to the 1870s, the award-winning Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) is now the 16th largest school district in California. RUSD educates nearly 42,000 students across 50 schools in Riverside. The District serves a large portion of Riverside as well as the unincorporated areas of Highgrove and Woodcrest. RUSD is led by its 13th Superintendent, Dr. Sonia Llamas and is governed by a Board of Education comprised of publicly elected officials who serve five different trustee areas.

Requirements / Qualifications

Under the direction of the Director V, Public Information & Communications, this position supervises the video production team, contributes to high-level communications, and serves as a representative of the District. It supports the implementation of Board Priorities and the District’s Communications Strategic Plan by collaborating with schools, divisions, and departments to enhance public relations, build strategic partnerships, support events, and develop communications materials.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with departments to develop and execute communications plans aligned with District goals.
  • Oversee multimedia projects (video, graphics, photography, news, etc.) that promote District initiatives.
  • Develop scripts, production plans, and timelines for assigned projects.
  • Lead training for staff on communication tools such as Canva, Peachjar, and ParentSquare.
  • Coordinate creation of Canva templates in collaboration with the Graphic Design and Digital Content Specialist.
  • Maintain regular office hours to provide staff support and develop optional training courses focused on design and presentation skills.
  • Build relationships with families and community groups to strengthen connections and gather input.
  • Partner with Parent Group Services and the Family Resource Center (FRC) to create a district-wide parent group directory.
  • Attend parent meetings as needed to understand concerns and convey District objectives.
  • Assess District communications needs and support continuous improvement efforts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Four years of experience in planning and producing publications, media relations and/or digital storytelling across platforms including video, graphics, and social media.
  • One year of experience supervising other staff members.
  • Experience with school district community relations and non-profit foundation work, desired.
  • Bilingual desired.
    LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license and availability of personal transportation.
