About the Employer
We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. Antioch is known as the “Gateway to the Delta” and is one of California’s oldest cities, with a diverse community of approximately 100,000. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, Administrative Services or its designee, plan, organize, control and direct operations and activities involved in the inspection, cleaning, construction, maintenance and repair of District buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment; coordinate and direct communications, personnel, projects, safety programs and resources to meet District needs and assure safe, clean, secure and orderly buildings, grounds and facilities; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: Antioch Unified School District is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable leader for the Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities position. The ideal candidate will have experience managing maintenance, custodial, and grounds operations in a school district or similar educational setting. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in supervising union employees, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities. The ideal candidate will be organized, collaborative, and skilled in planning, budgeting, and managing projects and preventive maintenance programs. Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential, along with a commitment to supporting the district’s mission by providing high-quality facilities for students, staff, and the community. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related field and five years increasingly responsible experience performing planning and construction duties including work and contract administration. SELECTION & EXAMINATIONS: The selection process will consist of an application, supplemental, and resume screening and scoring for qualifications and experience. Incomplete application packets will be disqualified. Application packet scoring (weighted 10%) and an oral panel interview (weighted 90%) will be conducted. A passing score must be achieved on each portion of exams to be placed on the eligibility list for final selection. Final selection will be made from those who achieve the three highest ranking scores.
