SUBSTITUTE TEACHER APPLICATION INFORMATION
In order to be a substitute teacher in the Brentwood Union School District, you must provide the following documents:
- A valid California Teaching Credential or Substitute Permit
- Completed Brentwood Substitute Payroll Packet
If you do not have a CA credential, you must apply for an emergency substitute permit. The application for this permit can be emailed to you or picked up at the BUSD District Office. The cost of this credential is listed on the Commission for Teacher Credentialing website (www.ctc.ca.gov) and must be paid before a permit is issued.
- Proof of a Bachelors Degree - Must be original official transcripts showing the date the degree was awarded (we’ll make a copy).
- Proof of passing CBEST - If you have not yet taken the CBEST exam, you may substitute on a waiver until you have had a chance to take the next available test. You may also meet the Basic Skills Requirement by showing proof of passing a Reading, Writing and Math college course with a B or better.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If this is your first CA credential, you must also be fingerprinted. Fingerprinting is available at various locations throughout the community. Applicants are responsible for the cost of fingerprinting.
As soon as all of the above requirements are met, you will be placed on the substitute list.
Substitute pay is:
• $200 a day (regular day-to-day subbing)
• $215 a day (incentive pay - after 35 days in BUSD per school year)
• $225 a day (long-term substitute - after more than 19 consecutive days for the same teacher, retroactive to the beginning of the assignment).
Thank you for your interest in the Brentwood Union School District.
