Job Summary

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until canceled. There is currently ONE positions open in the Maintenance Department. This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position. Under the direction of an assigned, perform skilled mechanical maintenance work in the repair, installation, and alteration of air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilating systems and related equipment and facilities. This may involve other skilled maintenance activities on occasion.

Requirements / Qualifications

Training and Experience: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of varied experience in the air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration trades at the journey level.

License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license. Knowledge of: Functions and operations of heating and cooling equipment. Materials, tools, and methods used in the repair and maintenance of assigned trade. Electrical and air conditioning systems, circuitry, terms, and materials. Applicable safety codes and standards. Federal and state regulations related to refrigerants. General safety practices and procedures. Computer and mobile devices. Record keeping techniques and report preparation. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Ability to: Proficiently use tools, materials, and equipment related to specific trade. Repair and maintain buildings and related structural facilities or equipment. Work independently from general instructions. Guide the work of a crew. Handle a variety of work orders and complete work on schedule. Perform heavy manual labor. Work from plans and specifications and read and interpret blueprints. Operate a computer, mobile devices, and assigned software. Monitor and respond to requisitions in a computerized work order system. Communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing. Understand, follow, and carry out oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Communicate with diverse groups and individuals.
