WEB SITE DEVELOPER

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the general direction of an assigned supervisor, work independently with concurrent timelines while performing the tasks associated with maintaining, developing, implementing and monitoring the overall objectives for content and design of the District website and intranet; provide support, training, and service to web representatives at the District Office and department and school sites; and manage web performance and security.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Perform responsible and complex work involving the use of judgment and initiative to analyze and design web-based applications, refresh the appearance, modify and update the content and develop new website features for the District’s websites. E

Creates, edits and integrates graphics, text, video and audio into a homogeneous web-accessible environment using standard tools according to accepted standards of design. E

Works with designated database administrators to design, implement and maintain integrated database solutions. E

Creates web-based solutions to support, coordinate and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with the Superintendent’s office, contributors from other District Divisions, departments, sites and external education community including students, parents and business partners. E

Engage in training to keep skills current and as needed for the job; perform ongoing research and evaluation of new tools, software, products and technologies related to websites and make appropriate recommendations. E

Monitor and maintain secure and consistent web and Internet performance and security including server and network capacity planning. E

Monitor, analyze, and perform periodic reviews on all district website traffic for accuracy and appropriateness and prepare statistical reports accordingly. E

Convert files between various formats including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, Front Page, Adobe PDF, and HTML. E

Provide training and support to selected school site personnel involving the preparation of curriculum and training materials, telephone support and classroom or one-on-one training using tact, patience and courtesy. E

Configure and administer FTP rights to the District’s primary web server (public site) and secondary server (Intranet) for appointed web representatives ensuring adherence to District Procedures. E

Install and maintain supporting server software; design and execute efficient web production processes.

Administer the District’s website filtering program; update the library with the addition or removal of website URLs as requested by administrators. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Web system design and maintenance strategies including editing, publishing and modifying web content.
Web server functions, configuration tools, web browsing and enhancement tools.
Current Web languages.
Effective Internet design, terms, processes, development tools and practices.
Interface issues and browser programs.
Configuration, implementation and maintenance of relational database management system components.
Principles and techniques of optical scanning and graphic design software including creation, editing and publishing.
Presentation, organizational, interpersonal and principles of training and work direction skills.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

ABILITY TO:
Analyze and design web systems, applications, sites and files.
Install, use and maintain microcomputer and server-based operating system software and layered applications.
Convert various file formats into HTML and PDF formats.
Communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical personnel and assist users in development and maintenance of web pages.
Organize and present information using word processors, spreadsheets and presentation programs.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Comply with the District’s customer service standards, as outlined in Board Policy.
Provide training and technical support to staff and administrators.
Simultaneously manage multiple projects from beginning to completion; set and meet appropriate timelines.
Assess and understand emerging Internet technologies.
Maintain and establish cooperative working relationships.
Make sound judgments related to procedures, documentation and implementation of applications.
Use microcomputer equipment and related peripheral devices including scanners, printers, external storage devices, and digital cameras.
Understand issues related to browser “plug-ins”.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: a bachelor’s degree in information services, web design and development, or a related field (with at least 18 units in programming or web design), and two years of experience in advanced web development.

CERTIFICATION:

Web page design, internet or web related certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: a bachelor’s degree in information services, web design and development, or a related field (with at least 18 units in programming or web design), and two years of experience in advanced web development. CERTIFICATION: Web page design, internet or web related certification.

Applications will be screened and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job related performance exercise, technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director- Personnel Commission. Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1). **We will not accept applications after the deadline**
