DEFINITION: The Attendance Specialist, under the supervision of the school administrator, manages the high school attendance office; oversees and trains clerical staff and students assigned. Responsible for effective operations including records and reports of all attendance; communications with administrators, teachers, parents, law enforcement and other public agencies regarding absences, truancies, related laws, and other matters of student attendance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Maintains accurate records and lists of student attendance; enters or scans attendance, enrollment, truancies, and change of status data into computer. • Performs a variety of specialized and clerical duties related to the attendance function at an assigned school site involving period-by-period attendance; prepares a variety of lists, forms, notices and correspondence related to attendance matters. • Maintains records and accounting for “Limited Independent Study Program” (LISP) and home teaching. • Prepares reports of Average Daily Attendance (ADA) and various other reports. • Identifies and reports “no-show” students at the beginning of each school year. • Communicates with administrators, parents, students, and teachers regarding attendance and truancies. • Oversees students in a variety of clerical duties. • Performs related tasks as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: • Attendance laws, codes, rules and procedures. • Operation of standard business equipment including computers and computer program relative to the position. • Record-keeping techniques. • Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures. • Proper lifting techniques. • District policies, rules and regulations. Ability to: • Type at a net corrected speed of 45 words per minute. • Train and provide work direction and guidance to student aides and others as assigned. • Observe health and safety regulations • Work cooperatively with others. • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Education/Training/Required Certification: • High school graduate or equivalent. • Four years increasingly responsible experience involving maintaining student attendance records and statistics. • College-level training in personnel administration, accounting, management, or related subjects desirable.
