Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services, the Communications and Public Relations Officer is responsible for the accomplishment of comprehensive communications and marketing of Salinas Union High School District’s services and programs, and the school districts’ major accomplishments. This responsibility entails establishing and facilitating effective, state-of-the-art communication channels that are open, vibrant, and timely in conveying pertinent, impactful information and messaging about SUHSD and public education to all sectors of the communities throughout Monterey County. The Communications and Public Relations Officer is responsible for planning and implementing dynamic public relations outreach characterized by mutual understanding, responsiveness to needs, effectiveness, and efficiency of the Salinas Union High School District (SUHSD) and public education.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, - Communications or marketing experience - Five (5) years of leadership experience and record of accomplishment in public or corporate sector communications that includes directing broad ranging communications and marketing strategy programs - Demonstrated successful experience in the writing and production of web content and social media Desirable Qualifications: - Master’s degree in a relevant field - California Driver’s License and evidence of insurability Other Requirements: - Must be able to maintain confidentiality, professional effectiveness, and professional demeanor at all times - Must be willing to modify days/hours and to work additional hours on occasion - Must be willing to travel using own transportation with mileage reimbursed, as the job may require

he Salinas Union High School District has an enrollment of 16,000 students in grades 7-12. SUHSD includes four middle schools, grades 7-8, five high schools, grades 9-12, a continuation high school, an alternative school, an adult school, and ROP facilities. Our District provides a generous health benefits package for employees and their families. NOTE: New employees normally shall be employed at a rate no higher than that of Step C of the appropriate salary classification. If exceptional recruitment difficulties are encountered or an individual with unusually high qualifications is being considered for employment, the Board reserves the right to approve the appointment above Step C. An employee who has been promoted shall be placed on the salary schedule as follows: 1. If the range increase on a daily rate basis is less than five (5) percent above his/her range, the employee shall be placed on the same step on the new range 2. If the range increase on a daily rate basis is five (5) percent or more above his/her current range, the employee shall be placed at the step on the new range that is five (5) percent higher than his/her salary prior to promotion; or if the five (5) percent falls between steps, the next step higher which exceeds the five (5) percent.
