Requirements / Qualifications

Desert Sands Unified School District will recommend qualified non-credentialed applicants to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for the issuance of an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit. Currently, the Basic Skills Requirement (BSR) is waived for applicants who hold a Bachelor's degree.

Official transcripts are required only if you do not already hold a valid California Teaching Credential or Substitute Permit. If you are applying for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Permit for the first time, you must submit official transcripts as part of your application.

  • Copy of Transcript (Please upload a copy of your transcript showing proof of a Bachelor's degree or higher. If this is your first time applying for a teaching credential or substitute permit, an official transcript will be required. Do not drop off transcripts in person. You will be notified when and how to submit or order official transcripts. If your official transcript is in a sealed envelope, do not open it to upload a copy. Instead, upload a placeholder document stating: “I will provide official transcripts.)
  • Credential Copy (Please upload a copy of your valid California Teaching Credential or Substitute Permit. If you do not currently hold a credential or permit, upload a placeholder document stating: “I will apply for a 30-Day Substitute Permit through DSUSD.”)
  • Health (A valid medical screening and tuberculosis (TB) clearance are required for employment. Please upload a copy of your TB clearance—results completed within the past 4 years are acceptable. If you do not currently have a TB clearance, please upload a placeholder document stating: “I understand that TB clearance and a medical screening are required for employment.” The Medical Screening form will be provided in the employment packet.)
