Under the direction of the Facilities and Operations Director, the person holding this position will: plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by performing daily cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and offices including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and restroom disinfection while also tending to outdoor areas and seasonal tasks like litter cleanup, snow removal, and grounds upkeep. They handle minor building and equipment maintenance—replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, fixing fixtures, and operating cleaning and grounds equipment—while monitoring HVAC, electrical, and security systems, performing lock-up duties, and responding promptly to emergencies and unexpected hazards . The custodian also supports school events by arranging furniture, setting up spaces, and restoring these areas afterward, all while tracking inventory, safely managing cleaning chemicals, and documenting/reporting repair needs or safety concerns to supervisors in accordance with AFCS policies .
