Job Summary
Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, the Special Education Program Specialist (SPS) works cooperatively with administration and staff in supporting students with disabilities for the purpose/s of coordinating assigned special education program components and related activities; providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards. The Program Specialist should demonstrate foresight, examine issues and take initiative to improve the quality of education within the School. The Program Specialist ensures all students with disabilities in the Gorman Learning Center are provided a free and appropriate public education through the provision of instructional programs and related services. Additionally, the Program Specialist will screen, assess and identify students who qualify for special education services under one of the 13 qualifying conditions that adversely affect their educational progress. The Program Specialist will develop and provide direct and indirect services within the student's educational setting, based on established IEP goals and objectives.
