MATHEMATICS TEACHER
Secondary Level (6-8 OR 9-12)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid California Credential; EL Certification Required
JOB GOAL:
Teach mathematics to pupils in grades 6-8 OR 9-12 and assists in other school programs as assigned
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teach courses in mathematics utilizing California State Standards in teaching individual course content.
2. Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, overhead projector and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
3. Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
4. Develop lesson plans.
5. Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
6. Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
7. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
8. Evaluate each pupil's progress and ability level in mathematical knowledge and skills, and determines appropriate pupil placement.
9. Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
10. Select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
11. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
12. Communicate with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching mathematics and with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil's progress.
13. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or assignment and/or on a district level.
14. Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
15. Perform basic attendance accounting and clerical tasks as required.
16. Participate in faculty committees.
17. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants and other paraprofessionals.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. Mental ability to teach the skills; skills and knowledge required to interpret and implement policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position.
2. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
3. Ability to see and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
5. Manual dexterity to carry out the functions of the above essential responsibilities.
6. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
7. Ability to bend, reach and walk.
