Valley Preparatory School is looking for a General Music Teacher teacher for the 2025-26 academic school year. Valley Prep School, located in Redlands, California, is a coeducational independent day school offering a college preparatory curriculum in grades preschool through eight. The school environment is enriched by students who come from a variety of geographical, economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds. A teacher for this position: * has a deep interest and passion for teaching Music * has attained a BS degree in Music or related field * can create a developmentally appropriate cooperative learning environment * has interest in and/or experience with integrating thematic units across the curriculum * values collegiality with other teachers and administrators * has excellent communication skills with both children and adults * has experience collaborating with a team of teachers to deliver curriculum * has a warm and energetic personality with a good sense of humor *has a high level of comfort with a lot of movement and physical activity each day *has experience teaching a wide range of age groups * has experience working in a private/independent school setting (preferred but not required) Applicants should also be able to teach the students about the following: *fundamental concepts music theory such a rhythm, melody, pitch and tempo. *music history, composers, multicultural music *instruments including recorders, rhythm instruments, percussion, ukulele, orff/xylophones *Vocal concepts such as harmonization, healthy singing technique, Solfege etc *music appreciation such instruments of the orchestra, musical terminology, a variety of genres, etc. Other qualities: * should demonstrate considerable musical skill, knowledge, patience and creativity. *minimum 2 (all-school) concerts per year, including winter/spring concert. Must prepare for smaller ensemble appearances at school functions like grandparents day, culture day, talent show, etc.
