Job Title: Director of Career Services (Director I)
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Career Services leads, develops, and coordinates all district-wide Career Technical Education (CTE), college and career readiness initiatives, and school-to-career transition programs. The position ensures alignment with California CTE Framework, Perkins V, and the state’s College and Career Indicator (CCI) within the California School Dashboard.
SUPERVISOR: Associate Superintendent of Educational Services
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the district’s Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, ensuring alignment with state and federal mandates, including Perkins V and the California CTE Model Curriculum Standards.
- Support the implementation of comprehensive career exploration, guidance, and pathway development for grades 9–12, ensuring equitable access for all students, including English learners, foster youth, and students with disabilities.
- Support with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the District’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals related to college and career readiness.
- Collaborate with site leaders and counselors to integrate career exploration and planning activities into core instructional programs, including the use of online career platforms and interest inventories.
- Support Work Experience Education (WEE) programs to provide students with real-world learning opportunities, including job shadowing, paid internships, and career fairs.
- Lead and manage the District’s California Partnership Academies (CPA) and Linked Learning pathways.
- Administer all aspects of the District’s participation in Silicon Valley CTE (SVCTE), and industry-based credentialing opportunities.
- Coordinate and expand dual enrollment and articulation agreements with community colleges to ensure 2+2 and early college credit opportunities.
- Administer Work Permit programs.
- Oversee the Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG) and related state/federal career education grants.
- Build and maintain industry partnerships to support Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences aligned to sector pathways and labor market needs.
- Represent the district at CTE-related county, regional, and state-level meetings, industry advisory boards, and consortia.
- Develop and manage contracts with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and workforce development agencies.
- Provide professional development to teachers and staff on CTE standards, pathway development, and career readiness integration.
- Serve as the district liaison for programs aligned to California’s Career Pathways Trust, Apprenticeship Readiness, and Transition-to-Work services for students with IEPs.
- Supervise data collection and reporting related to student placement, follow-up, and CCI metrics.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid California Administrative Services Credential
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Demonstrated leadership in CTE program development, grant management, and industry collaboration
- Experience in high school or district-level administration, especially in CTE or pupil services
