Job Summary

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, assist certificated staff in the instruction, supervision, training and physical care of assigned individuals or groups of special needs students; responsibly perform a variety of instructional services and clerical support activities within a well-defined framework of policies, procedures and objectives; use sound judgment and initiative in working with and providing physical care for students with moderate to severe medical and physical disabilities or behavior disorders; ride a school bus or orthopedic transportation vehicle to provide safe and secure transportation for students with physical, medical, educational and emotional disabilities; assist drivers in the loading, unloading and securing of disabled students; and do other related work as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

Instructional Assistant I = High School Diploma or equivalent; II = AA, AS degree or 60 plus units at an accredited college or university; III = BA or BS degree. Equivalent to graduation from high school and/or any combination of experience and training to provide the required knowledge and skill. An AA degree, 60 plus units at an accredited college or university, 2 years equivalence of acceptable college coursework, or successful passage of an acceptable rigorous assessment is highly preferred. Must pass an Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test with a score of 75% or higher in the areas of Math, Reading and Writing, or provide High School Proficiency verification; Possess a valid California driver license and maintain insurability. Must be able to provide your own reliable transportation to work sites within Kings County. Transport students from time to time as required, in a county office vehicle. Participate in random alcohol and controlled substances testing as delineated in Superintendent Policy 4112.42, 4212.42, 4312.42 and Administrative Regulation 4112.42, 4212.42 and 4312.42.
