Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, serve as the facilitator of communication between students, teachers and others; interpret from spoken and written English to sign language for students and sign language to voice for teachers and peers.
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Possess a Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent; or must have achieved a score of 4.0 or above on the EIPA, the ESSE-I/R, or the NAD/ACCI assessment; • Education or experience related to working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing in an educational setting preferred; • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License and provide proof of automobile insurability; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance. BENEFITS Employees are provided with an insurance plan, which includes health, vision, and dental insurance for employee, spouse, and dependents, at a shared cost. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 35 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to which both the employee and MCOE contribute. Employee may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
