DESCRIPTION:
Under supervision, directs students safely across intersections and crosswalks. The duties are routine, but requires good judgment. This is part-time work during appropriate hours and days when schools are in session.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of :
- School procedures, rules and regulations; and
- Basic traffic laws and appropriate traffic control techniques
AND
Ability to:
- Work harmoniously with administrators, teachers, students and other employees;
- Exercise good judgment in traffic control to promote student safety;
- Learn and enforce traffic laws with respect pedestrian to right of way;
- Maintain physical and mental attributes sufficient to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which includes standing for extended periods of time, possessing adequate vision and hearing needed for making decision for student safety and understanding and carrying out oral and written directions; and
- Provide first aid in emergency situations
AND
Training and experience:
- Possession of a valid California Drivers License
- Provision of Tuberculosis test results
- Provision of Department of Justice Fingerprint cards
- Training from law enforcement agency for Crossing Guards
- Previous experience desirable, but not required.
Physical Abilities:
Requires constant standing, walking, reaching at/above/below shoulders, neck flexion (up and down) and rotation. Requires occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting at the waist. Requires the ability to constantly lift up to 5 pounds and carry up to 20 feet. Requires visual acuity and hearing to observe students, vehicles, situations and movement. Requires speaking skills in order to communicate with students. Requires finger dexterity in order to write and use a whistle. Requires grasping in order to handle a stop sign. Requires writing and reading skills in order to complete reports. Hear, speak, write, and read in English to exchange information.
