Julian is a small rural town in the mountains of Eastern San Diego County - so Julian Junior High is not your typical neighborhood school. Our K-8 district consists of one elementary and one junior high school, covers 600 square miles, includes two Native American reservations and serves a diverse student population of 300 students (approximately 90 in grades 6-8). Our mission is to provide every student success in learning. We are dedicated to the individual development of attitudes, skills, knowledge, and responsibility essential to successful achievement in school and society. We actively involve parents and the community in supporting student learning and development. Job Description Title: Science Teacher Department: Junior High Education Immediate Supervisor: School Site Administrator Terms of Employment: 100% contract General Description • Teaches skills, knowledge and scientific attitudes through courses in earth, life, and physical science. • Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and other instructional aids. • Instructs students in the proper use, care, and safe handling of equipment, plant, and animal life. • Establishes effective classroom management and student discipline systems. • Regularly assesses students and maintains assessment documentation. • Supervises students during recesses, lunches, and before/after school as assigned by the administration. • Participates in regular and effective communication with parents as partners in students’ education. • Analyzes data to inform instruction. • Actively engages SEL professional development and implementation. • Actively participates in school enrollment management initiatives. • Follows guidelines for fulfillment of duties as described in the Employee Handbook. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Adjunct duties. • Sports coaching.
