Inclusion Specialist Job Description/Responsibilities

 

The Inclusion Specialist will implement and evaluate appropriate inclusion supports for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).  Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Inclusion Specialist will support and coordinate instruction, modifications, enrichment, and interventions for students with IEPs to facilitate successful participation in the general education setting.  The Inclusion Specialist works as a member of a collaborative team that includes teachers, instructional assistants, administrators, special education staff, and parents to support the inclusion of students with disabilities in a general education setting.  

 

  • Provide training and consultation in the implementation of behavioral and instructional interventions for students with disabilities  

  • Provide direction in the collection and interpretation of data so modifications can be made to the instructional program for students on their caseload

  • Adapt/modify curriculum to meet the needs of students with disabilities

  • Demonstrate, model, and assist teachers in providing instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional strategies that best meet the needs of students with disabilities

  • Serve as a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) case carrier and collaborate with the team on the development of student goals.  Serve as facilitator at IEP meetings for students assigned to the caseload

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of behavior plans when appropriate 

  • Works as a collaborative member of the Special Education Team

  • Works cooperatively and constructively with all school staff in implementing the IEP

  • Communicates effectively and consistently with parents, families, and staff

  • Conduct assessments as part of the student’s multidisciplinary assessment team

  • Assess student progress regularly, and revise Individual Education Program (IEP) goals as appropriate

  • Make recommendations for instructional support necessary for student success

  • Provide ongoing, regular support in the general education classroom setting

  • Provide professional development and ongoing support to instructional aides to support 

  • student independence across instructional settings

  • Work with general education teachers and support providers to provide a safe and caring learning environment

  • Monitors critical student information and maintains accurate student records

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Letter of Introduction Letter of Recommendation (at least 3 within the Last 12 months) Resume Must hold one of the credentials listed below: Mild/Moderate Support Needs Extensive Suppport Needs or hold Bridge Credential for either EL Authorization required

The East Whittier City School District provides educational opportunities (transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, including special education) for approximately 8,600 children. The District employs approximately 1,075 teachers, administrators and support staff. We have 13 schools which operate on a traditional school year schedule.
