PARA EDUCATOR A
9 Months/Year
Definition
Under supervision of the elementary teacher, to perform a variety of instructional activities; to provide intensified learning experiences for students in assigned areas; to provide a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for teachers; and to do related work as required.
Example of Duties

Assists instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises;

Tutors individuals and small groups of students to reinforce and follow-up learning activities;

Supervises students in the classroom, on field trips and during other activities;
-
Administers and corrects standardized tests; maintains student records, attendance and files;
-
Performs a variety of regular clerical duties such as filing, typing or duplicating materials;
-
Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher; assists in maintaining a neat, orderly and attractive learning environment by performing such tasks as cleaning the room, arranging displays, or preparing bulletin boards;
-
May communicate in a foreign language with students to help clarify instructions and answer questions; and
- May assist students with toileting needs (stipend included).

Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults.
Experience
One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children in an educational or child care setting
Education
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, preferably supplemented by courses in child care, psychology or guidance.

To be eligible for the position, candidates will need to pass a skills tests or provide proof of at least 48 college units or an AA or higher.

All classified employees must sign an oath of allegiance to the constitution of the State of California and the United States, must be of good moral character, must obtain evidence of a negative TB test. And will be required to provide evidence of citizenship or appropriate immigration status.
CA law requires public educational employees to be fingerprinted for the purpose of a confidential background investigation at the time of employment, whether or not the employee has previously been fingerprinted.
All offers of employment are conditional upon the applicants satisfactory results of the Post Offer Pre-Placement Physical evaluation Program. This physical strength test helps us select employee candidates that have demonstrated a minimum level of strength to perform the essential functions of the job. There is no charge for this service.
