Parish Music Director/ School Music Teacher Job Description St. Brendan Parish and School Overview The Music Director/Music Teacher is a parish position that serves both the church and school to support each other's music programs. This position has two primary roles: St. Brendan Parish Music Director and St. Brendan Parish School's Music Teacher. The Music Director/Music Teacher reports directly to the pastor and the principal. This position is in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Parish Music Director: Key Responsibilities • Responsible for the design and coordination of music for all liturgies. • Leads and/or accompanies music for many of the liturgies for the parish and school • Duties may involve the selection of music, teaching music to the assembly • Develops and leads adult and student choirs • Recruits and supervises musicians • Requires instrumental/and or vocal skills and strong knowledge and appreciation of Roman Catholic Liturgy • Reports directly to the pastor • Coordinates special music for Easter and Christmas and other special liturgies • Select and calendar hymns for each month School Music Teacher Key Responsibilities • Help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences • Teach music classes to grades Kindergarten through 8th grade • Design music lesson plans appropriate for each grade level • lnstruct students in the use of various musical instruments • Lead and teach students to sing a variety of songs, including those used in Mass and during sacraments • lntegrate Catholic, faith-based music into the curriculum • Reports directly to the principal and/or delegate with pastor input • Coordinates special music for Easter and Christmas and other special liturgies Qualifications The candidate should be a practicing Catholic and an active member of a Catholic Parish.
