Windy Meadows School is a progressive, independent program based in Palo Alto, CA, serving 5th and 6th grade students in a bridge-year model between elementary and middle school. Our mission is to reconnect children with the joy of learning by offering an academically rigorous, inquiry-driven curriculum rooted in hands-on experiences and student interests. Our small learning community values kindness, curiosity, collaboration, and connection. Through interdisciplinary, project-based learning and real-world fieldwork, we cultivate both academic excellence and personal growth. Windy Meadows is seeking a passionate, experienced, and creative Lead Educator to design and deliver a year-long educational experience for a small cohort of 5th/6th grade students. The ideal candidate will bring a student-centered approach, strong classroom leadership, and a deep interest in inquiry-based and experiential learning. This is a full-time teaching position with a July/August start to allow for curriculum development and onboarding ahead of the school year launch. Responsibilities: · Develop and implement integrated, standards-aligned curriculum focused on student inquiry and interdisciplinary projects · Create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that supports both academic and social-emotional learning · Lead field-based and experiential learning opportunities tied to classroom themes · Assess student progress through varied, authentic methods and maintain clear student records and portfolios · Collaborate closely with a teaching assistant and other staff members to support students holistically · Communicate regularly with families and contribute to a positive school culture
Requirements / Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field (Master’s Degree preferred) · Minimum 2 years full-time teaching experience (Upper Elementary or Middle Grades preferred) · Demonstrated experience with or commitment to inquiry-based and project-based learning · Excellent communication and classroom management skills · A collaborative, flexible, and reflective approach to teaching Preferred Qualifications · Background in STEM or interdisciplinary teaching · Experience with mixed-age classrooms or multi-subject teaching · Familiarity with portfolio-based assessment and student documentation · Enthusiasm for outdoor learning and fieldwork integration
