Brief Description of Position: Provides counseling service to students and parents which assist the student in making appropriate decisions relative to his/her educational, emotional, and social development. Assists the student in making the maximum use of his/her potential. Please see full job description. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Provides individual counseling for students related to the pupil’s adjustment to school. 2. Makes contact and holds conferences with parents of counseled students. 3. Serves as lead on Site Student Study Teams. 4. Maintains liaison with school psychologist for purposes of testing and further diagnosis of students with severe problems. 5. Consults with principal and staff regarding students needs. 6. Provides referrals to community agencies for parents seeking help with their children. 7. Conducts counseling groups to aid students in self-understanding, improving relationships with others, and increasing self-confidence. 8. Collaborates with law enforcement, mental health, and family services agencies in cooperatively attempting to remedy problems involving pupils. 9. Works cooperatively with principal and staff in developing on-site in-service activities. 10. Consults with principal in placement of students for maximum educational gains. 11. Keeps all records as required housed in a confidential location. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Sets goals and objectives for school year to enhance program. 2. Participates in faculty meetings, parent/teacher meetings, and other community groups as a representative of the District’s counseling services. 3. Attends various professional meetings and in-service workshops as a representative of the District’s counseling services
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Position Qualifications 1. Credential-General Pupil Service Credential with counseling authorization or equivalent 2. Education-Master’s Degree, with all required training and intern experience completed from an accredited institution. 3. Experience-Successful completion of an internship leading to the PPS credentials with school counseling authorization 4. Must provide own transportation between schools, to be reimbursed at current district mileage rate.
