Job Description / Essential Elements
The ideal candidate will inspire students in grades 7–8 to develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. This teacher will create a classroom environment that nurtures a love for literature and language while preparing students for high school and beyond. Under the direction of the principal, they will serve as a classroom teacher, planning, delivering, and assessing instructional lessons aligned with the California common core curriculum for 7th - 8th Grade.

Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Valid state teaching credential/certification in English Language Arts or equivalent. Minimum of 1–2 years teaching experience at the middle school level preferred. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Familiarity with current best practices in ELA instruction and assessment. Commitment to creating a positive and engaging learning environment. Foster a respectful, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment. Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary units and school-wide activities. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. Understand the basic teachings of the Catholic Church Uphold the mission and values of St. Edward School in all professional responsibilities.

Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with school curriculum standards and state requirements. Teach literature, grammar, writing, vocabulary, and public speaking to students in grades 7–8. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students. Assess and monitor student progress through formal and informal methods. Provide regular feedback to students and communicate effectively with parents/guardians. Integrate technology into instruction to enhance learning outcomes.
