Description The San Diego Unified School District is currently seeking a School to Career Vocational Specialist to provide a variety of support services and career and vocational opportunities to special education secondary, and adult students in the enhancement of school to career transition; work with individual students with work-based learning opportunities in the business community; work with students to develop vocational, social, and independent living skills. There is currently one 35 hour per week, 10 month per year vacancy available at TRACE Alternative School (Area E). TRACE is a part of the San Diego Unified School District but is more than a school. TRACE is an educational support network designed to assist young adult students with disabilities, ages 18-22, as they transition from high school to adult life. This is a promotional/open opportunity, which means that current monthly-salaried employees receive precedence over other candidates on the eligible list.
Requirements / Qualifications
The School to Career Vocational Specialist is part of a team working directly with the Transition Partnership Program and WorkAbility programs within SDUSD. This position will be responsible for multiple high and middle schools within SDUSD. Essential duties will include providing coaching and resources for students ages 16-22 with disabilities. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, flexible, compassionate, and understanding. Position Details: 35 hours per week, 10 months per year. Shift may vary depending on site/student needs. This recruitment opportunity requires the incumbent to be Bilingual in English/Spanish. If you are not a BILINGUAL candidate, please do not submit an application as you will not be considered. Candidates considered for positions that require bilingual skills will be invited to a Performance Test (Qualifying Only) for oral and written fluency. Bilingual positions qualify for a 5% bilingual differential. This recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for the current vacancy as well as any future vacancies. This list will be active for three (3) months with the possibility to be extended.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: an associate's degree with coursework in sociology, psychology, special education, social science, vocational rehabilitation, or related field and two (2) years’ experience working with special education. Work experience with vocational development highly desired. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver’s license and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided).
