ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – HIGH SCHOOL Definition Under supervision of the principal, shall assist the principal and be responsible for all student body activities consistent with District policy, goals, and objectives; shall assume staff responsibilities and other tasks or projects assigned by the principal. Essential Responsibilities 1. Assume charge of the high school in the absence of the principal; 2. Develop and supervise student activities; 3. Assist with student behavior in harmony with District and school philosophy, policy, regulations, and procedures; 4. Develop the student body budget; maintain and control all expenditures involving student fund transactions; 5. Assist the principal in the supervision of instruction, the selection and evaluation of certificated and classified personnel; 6. Participate in the determination and development of policies, rules and regulations for the school; 7. Assist the principal in the development of the master schedule; 8. Develop and maintain a student activity calendar, including assemblies, dances, club functions, and other special events; 9. Assume responsibility for the assignment of staff for supervision of club and extra-curricular activities; 10. Attend and assist with the supervision of as many school activities as possible; 11. Serve as advisor to Student Council; 12. Participate as a member of the Instructional Resource Council; 13. Assume leadership in the implementation, evaluation, and modification of student handbooks and guides; 14. Assume responsibility for the eligibility determination of students for all extracurricular activities; 15. Supervise the acquisition and administration of athletic and other student body awards; and 16. Assume responsibility for the daily bulletin. Specific Authority 1. Make decisions necessary to accomplish those functions delegated to this assistant principal by the principal within the framework of District and departmental administrative organizations; and 2. Make all decisions necessary to operate the school in the absence of the principal. Qualifications 1. Master's Degree; 2. Appropriate administrative credential; 3. Capable of developing student and staff leadership; 4. Ability to relate well to teachers and students; and 5. Competent in public relations. Experience 1. Three years of successful teaching or counseling in the public schools at the appropriate level; and 2. Competence in student and student body affairs.
