Position Definition:
To perform a variety of functions in support of Districtwide research services; and to design, develop and conduct complex research projects to provide data related to educational programs, planning, evaluation, accreditation, accountability, and development.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the advanced journey-level position in the research analyst class series. An employee in this position designs, develops and conducts the most complex projects in the District's institutional research program. Also conducts training for faculty and staff on data extraction tools.
Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Conducts broad-scale and highly complex institutional research projects and studies.
• Designs, implements, and directs the maintenance of specialized data bases and information systems to facilitate research and planning activities.
• Writes complex research reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content including the preparation of conclusions and forecasts based on data summaries and other findings.
• Creates robust and highly complex SQL queries and dashboards for data extraction.
• Coordinates the development and maintenance of a comprehensive, user-friendly institutional research and planning website.
• Maintains statistical database for generation of required reports and files; utilizes the internet to access statistical and educational data for comparison reports.
• Utilizes a variety of software, including statistical, graphic, spreadsheet and database software to compile data extracted from various databases.
• Researches, collects and compiles statistics to complete and file reports for District and college administrators and governmental agencies.
• Prepares statement narratives and reports regarding assigned projects/programs.
• Works with the District Information Technology Department to provide necessary research for users at the colleges.
• Performs special assignments and research as requested.
• Analyzes, monitors and schedules projects according to established timelines and completes follow-up accordingly.
• Conducts various tests and research to ensure the computerized data warehouse is populated correctly.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Four (4) years of progressive experience in research projects requiring general statistical/analytical work.
EDUCATION/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in social sciences, statistics, mathematics, computer science, business administration, or a related field, or the equivalent.
Knowledge Of:
• Research techniques appropriate to an academic/institutional environment, statistical and analytical methods and procedures.
• Principles and practices of database management.
• Methods and techniques of analytical report preparation.
• Modern software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Skill To:

Ability To:
• Gather statistical data, conduct research, maintain records and prepare concise reports.
• Exercise sound judgment when dealing with complex research issues.
• Use interactive programming languages and advanced data access and distribution tools.
• Plan, organize and schedule projects.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Perform mathematical calculations and statistical analyses with accuracy.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
• Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, and religious background of all students, faculty and staff, and with all individuals encountered in the performance of required duties.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience with design, development, and support of complex Tableau visualizations.
• Proficiency developing robust research paradigms with clear writeups that detail the methods, results, their interpretation and limitations.
• Proficiency with applied inferential statistics and their corresponding assumptions, null-hypothesis significance testing, evaluation and computation of various effect sizes (e.g., correlation, Cohen's D).
• Experience with writing complex SQL queries.
• This recruitment emphasizes skill at behavioral research over database management.
Special Instructions:
We are seeking an experienced Research Analyst who demonstrates an exceptional ability in translating practical questions into comprehensive research methodologies and effective data products, such as dashboards, interactive tables, and detailed reports, that inform planning and decision-making across the district. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication skills across various mediums that facilitates a deep understanding of the information and research needs of our campus partners. This understanding is reflected in the development of high-quality data products that are tailored to meet those needs, are intuitive to use, and easy to maintain. Additionally, the candidate should be a dedicated advocate of the office's data products, fostering an inviting learning environment for campus partners to enhance their data literacy.
NOTE: New employees will be placed at the first step which is $92,412 per year, second step $97,080 per year or third step at $101,988 per year (depending upon experience). Based on current salary placement guidelines, all step increases for which an employee becomes eligible shall take place on July 1st of each fiscal year. These increases will occur, on annual basis, until the maximum step of $112,560 per year is reached on the salary schedule.
