DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Director of Student Services & Special Education, serves as Psychologist to students in grades K through 6; a member of the Individual Education Program Planning Team (IEP); participates in decisions regarding placement of exceptional students; and creates a program of learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Administers individual testing of students for the purpose of diagnosing academic and behavioral problems.
Develops hypothesis, aggregates data and makes recommendations.
Researches available tests necessary to meet individual school and student needs.
Provides inservice training for staff on standardized administration techniques.
Interprets individual and group test data to staff and parents.
Develops instructional program with staff to meet student’s needs and recommends behavior management techniques to staff and parents.
Recommends curriculum alternatives and specific instructional strategies to staff and parents and assists staff in utilization of strategies recommended.
Counsels students, parents and consults with staff in the development of appropriate behavior goals.
Assists students, parents and staff in the development of realistic personal expectancies.
Develops individual and group problem solving techniques.
Develops interpersonal relation skills.
Provides a climate within which parents, students and staff can gain assistance with problems.
Evaluates students in relation to learning needs.
Selects and requisitions supplies and materials necessary to provide meaningful learning experiences for students.
Maintains records as required by the school, district and/or state.
Serves as liaison for school referrals to community resources; maintains contact with outside community agencies; appropriately utilizes outside agencies based upon identified needs of students.
Plans, implements and evaluates staff development activities in the area of behavior management, testing and guidance, and teaching strategies.
Participates in the development of school and district program.
Conducts needs assessment, researches, writes, develops and evaluates schemes for specific programs at the district level.
Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
Participates in school and/or district meetings and committees as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Credential: Valid Pupil Personnel Services credential and/or license authorizing service in School Psychology.
Education: Master’s Degree
Experience: All required field work/internship and teaching experience. Preferably a minimum of five years successful experience in an elementary school setting.
Personal Qualities: Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students.
Above average recommendations from internship supervisors and other professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainmentand performance of the individual.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must possess valid Pupil Personnel Services credential and/or license authorizing service in School Psychology, including a Master’s Degree Prefer 2 years experience as School Psychologist
