St. Michael’s School is a Catholic School in the Diocese of San Diego serving approximately 600 students in Preschool through eighth grade. Established in 1964 by the Sisters of St. Clare, we are the largest Catholic elementary school in the Diocese, with two sections of each grade level K- 4, and three sections of each grade level 5-8. The mission of St. Michael’s School is to guide students to grow in faith, knowledge, and character. Differentiated instruction is provided so that each student is challenged at their “just-right” learning level. We seek to educate the whole child, and students are encouraged to develop their God-given talents. With rich content and an emphasis on inquiry-based and student-driven projects, students are empowered and encouraged to be active and engaged learners. Our teachers apply best practices through collaboration, integrated curriculum, brain-based teaching and learning methods, and continued professional development. Position Overview St. Michael’s School seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in Preschool through Grade 8. Students will grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, and playing instruments, as well as basic music theory and history.

Religious Qualifications - Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred) - Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy Professional Qualifications - BA in Music or Music Education - Knowledge of sacred music, specifically the Roman Catholic Mass - Vocal skills - Piano Accompaniment

Physical Requirements
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
- Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
