TITLE: PHYSICAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
SALARY 10 None or a limited number of units
RANGE: 12 Completion of 15 semester units of a varied academic program
15 Completion of 30 semester units of a varied academic program, 15 of which must be education courses or related subjects
18 An AA Degree (60 semester units or more, 30 of which must be education courses or related subjects) or 60 units of education courses.

QUALIFICATIONS
a. Required:
1. High school graduation or its equivalent.
2. Must pass basic high school competency test.
3. Ability to speak and write effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn procedures, functions, and limitations of assigned duties; work effectively with young people in situations requiring poise and patience; perform strenuous physical activities; analyze situations accurately and make judgments without immediate supervision; establish and maintain cooperative relationships; perform general clerical work; work calmly under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
b. Desirable:
1. Experience in working with school-age children in an organized setting.
2. Knowledge of general needs and behavior of children; basic elements of child growth and development including physical growth and development; recreational games.
3. Ability to communicate in Spanish.
4. Possession of valid California driver license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Instruct students, including special needs children, in physical education skills and activities, using and adapting lesson plans prepared by a physical education teacher.
2. Supervise playground and physical education activities.
3. Administer teacher-prepared tests and assess measurements of student development
4. Set up and arrange supplies and equipment.
5. May perform a variety of clerical and record keeping activities which may include taking roll, filling out forms and applications, and correcting papers.
6. Prepare bulletin boards and displays as instructed.
7. Perform other duties as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
2. Ability to ascend and descend sloping grounds and/or steps.
3. Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids.
4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
5. Ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.
6. Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop.
7. Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
8. Ability to reach in all directions.
9. Ability to be outdoors for extended periods of time in all kinds of weather, i.e. hot, cold, windy.
10. Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to demonstrate and participate in strenuous physical activities.

Applicants who are screened in for an interview will have to take the Instructional Assistant written exam only if you have NOT (1) taken and passed every portion of the "No Child Left Behind" proficiency exam with the Lucia Mar Unified School District or (2) passed CBEST or (3) have a degree.
