Job Summary
The Superintendent of Catholic Schools is appointed by the Bishop and functions under policy direction from both the Bishop and Vicar General to ensure the implementation of diocesan policies and directives. The primary role of the Superintendent is to assist the Bishop in directing the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Santa Rosa. The Superintendent is the senior lay administrative person and chief representative responsible for working with parish and diocesan leadership to establish a collaborative, ongoing culture of excellent preschool - 12th grade education and continued growth that will ensure vibrant Catholic schools for current students and future generations in the Diocese. The Superintendent provides collaborative leadership with the schools particularly in the areas of Catholic school identity, mission effectiveness, faith formation, educational excellence, and effective stewardship. The superintendent offers basic support to persons wanting to establish or maintain homeschooling cooperatives. The Superintendent works with parishes and diocesan leadership to explore various forms of local governance models, and for schools under the direct supervision of the Department of Catholic Schools, he or she oversees the governance of those schools. The role of Superintendent provides support, guidance, and assistance to Catholic schools and helps Pastors, Principals, and Presidents as they administer their schools.
