JOB GOAL: Teaches one or more classes of Spanish to pupils in grades 9-12 and assists in other school programs as assigned
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy of the district and consistent with the State standards for foreign language.
• Provides effective instructional strategies, which develop basic communication skills.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of the culture of the countries where the foreign language is spoken.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
• Evaluates each pupil's progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught and prepares progress reports.
• Creates bulletin boards and other displays of materials to motivate language learning.
• Maintains professional competence through selected professional growth activities.
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
• Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual pupil's progress and to interpret the school program.
• Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
• Provides continuing development of critical thinking skills, especially decision-making.
• Selects and requests books, instructional aids, and supplies and maintains inventory records as required.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as necessary or assigned.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve attitude and learning problems.
• Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual pupil's progress.
• Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
• Performs basic attendance accounting and clerical tasks as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.

• Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
• Ability to bend, reach and walk.
