English Language Development Specialist - Remote at Southern California Flex Academy

Job Summary
The ELD Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality English Language Development support to multilingual learners across grade levels 6–12. This position focuses on accelerating English language acquisition, with a strong emphasis on the needs of Long-Term English Learners (LTELs). The ELD Specialist will collaborate with content teachers, families, and administrators to support student growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English through targeted instructional strategies in a fully online environment.
Requirements / Qualifications
Responsibilities • Provide direct instruction in English Language Development to multilingual learners, with particular focus on LTELs. • Identify instructional needs, monitor progress, and tailor support services. • Support the integration of ELD strategies across the curriculum by collaborating with general education teachers to ensure access to academic content. • Create and implement language development lesson plans that are engaging and standards-aligned. • Utilize the Canvas LMS to deliver synchronous and asynchronous instruction, assignments, and assessments. • Assist in the administration of English language proficiency assessments (e.g., ELPAC). • Provide targeted academic interventions and scaffolded instruction based on individual language levels. • Maintain accurate documentation of student services, progress monitoring, and parent communication. • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings as needed to support English learners with special needs. • Communicate regularly with families and students to promote engagement, language development, and academic success. • Collaborate with the ELD Coordinator on compliance with state and federal English learner program requirements. • Stay informed on current research and best practices related to second language acquisition, particularly for LTELs. • Participate in school-wide professional development, ELD team meetings, and ongoing coaching cycles. • All other duties as assigned.

• California residency required
• Current California teaching credential with English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent)
• Minimum of two years’ experience teaching English learners, preferably in a middle or high school setting
• Experience supporting Long-Term English Learners (LTELs) through targeted instructional strategies
• Strong understanding of California English Language Development Standards, ELD frameworks, and Common Core State Standards
• High proficiency with Canvas LMS, Google Workspace, and other digital instructional tools
• Proven ability to differentiate instruction in a virtual learning environment
• Experience collaborating in a professional learning community or team setting
• High quality written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of best practices in second language acquisition
• Passionate about supporting the academic and linguistic growth of multilingual students
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule in a remote learning context
• Commitment to continuous professional learning and reflective practice
