Job Description
San Bernardino Valley College is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a majority of our students identifying themselves as either African-American/Black or Latinx. This posting is to fill one (1) full-time, tenure track position teaching in the Applied Technology Transportation, and Culinary Arts department.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
A full-time Culinary Arts instructor's job is to teach and guide students in culinary skills, techniques, baking techniques, and food preparation. They develop lesson plans, demonstrate cooking techniques, and assess student progress. This role also involves managing kitchen and catering operations, ensuring food safety standards are met, and managing inventory and training staff.

1. Delivering lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on instruction in various culinary techniques, including food preparation, Cake Decorating, baking, and pastry.
2. Creating and updating lesson plans, curricula, and resources to align with industry standards and program goals.
3. Evaluating student performance through observation, practical exams, and written assignments, providing feedback and guidance.
4. Ensuring the proper functioning and cleanliness of the kitchen, including organizing and maintaining inventory, and adhering to safety and sanitation regulations.
5. Staying updated on the latest culinary trends and techniques, participating in professional development activities, and collaborating with other instructors.
6. Interacting with students, colleagues, and potentially industry partners to promote the program and culinary arts.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience directly related to teaching assignment
OR
an Associate's degree and six (6) years of professional experience directly related to teaching assignment
OR
the equivalent.*

DESIRED QUALIFICATION/S
1. Master's degree
2. A minimum of six (6) years teaching experience in Culinary Arts.
3. A minimum of four (4) years running multiple kitchens.
4. Possess an American Culinary Federation Certification
5. Possess a ServSafe Certification.

Employment Requirements
The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
• Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
• Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
• Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)
