Job Summary
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Promotes and protects the optimal health status of all children in the district. • Assist in the formulation and appraisal of policies, standards and objectives of the district’s health program. • Assists with planning curriculum for health instruction. • Provides staff development on health – related topics for school staff. • Assists parents and school personnel where health or medical needs are involved including student field trips. • Directs screening procedures for vision, hearing, scoliosis, etc., as appropriate. • Assists in school registration to secure health history of incoming students. Contacts parent to ensure that all children have physicals and or immunizations before the beginning of school. • Makes parental contacts when necessary, regarding health problems, screening tests, immunizations, and assists families with medical/health referrals to community services. • Maintains records and pertinent health information on all incoming students and records results of screenings on cumulative health records • Secures signatures for any medication to be given at school. Keeps information current for children on medication by completing medication form. • Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases. • Responds to emergency care when a child is ill or injured. • Makes home calls on children absent with a prolonged illness. • Submits reports to the County Health Office and other agencies as required. • Serves on IEP committees for Special Education Programs. • Keeps school first aid station stocked with necessary supplies. • Assists in transporting/or accompanying ill or injured children. • Maintains professional competence through participation in District staff development and in self-selected professional growth activities. • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Credential: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, School Nurse Credential, Health Services Credential, Public Health Nurse Certificate, and a valid California Registered Nurse License. • Experience: Extensive background in the Nursing field. • Personal Qualities: Ability to work with staff, students and parents: follow oral and written instructions: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
