Job Description

This posting is to fill one (1) full-time, tenure track position teaching in the Arts & Humanities

department.

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: 

 

The Film, Television, and Media Department seeks a dynamic full-time faculty member with expertise in

streaming broadcast and cinematic production. This position focuses on teaching courses related to multicamera studio production, live broadcast, streaming platforms, directing, producing, and post-production workflows for episodic content. As a fulltime faculty member at San Bernardino Valley College, the successful candidate will provide instruction in operating cameras for single-camera projects and

demonstrate a strong commitment to working effectively with a culturally diverse student population.

Faculty Positions may require work to be performed during evenings and/or weekends.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

 

The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all

1. Provides instruction and mentorship to students pursuing degrees in Film and Media Studies.

2. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours

3. Develop, implement, and revise curriculum for the Film, TV, and Media department and

for broadcast and streaming courses.

4. Teach a range of Film, TV, and Media courses at various levels.

5. Facilitate a learning environment that encourages student success and retention.

6. Contribute to program evaluation, accreditation activities, committee work, and continuous

improvement efforts of the institution.

7. Participate in departmental, college-wide, and community service activities.

8. Participate in partnerships and activities that relate to recruitment with the community, local

schools, colleges, and universities

9. Instruct students in single camera production techniques, including camera operation and

shot composition.

10. Guide students through the complete production process from directing and producing to

post-production for broadcast formats.

11. Participate and collaborate in FTVM team, department, and division meetings

12. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, and general

institutional needs

 

Qualifications

 

Education:

 

Master's in Film/Cinema and Media Studies, Film, Television, and Media Studies, Drama/Theater, Mass Communication

 

OR

 

Bachelor's degree in any of the above

AND

 

Master's degree in Visual Studies, Media Studies, English, or Communication

 

OR

 

the equivalent.*

Experience:Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

1. Two (2) years experience teaching lab and lecture courses in a variety of modalities in a post-secondary environment.

 

2. One (1) year experience in the development and implementation of new curriculum.

 

3. One (1) year experience in technical directing multi-camera production in a TV studio and field environment.

 

4. One (1) year experience in basic broadcast engineering techniques and procedures.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

 

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

 

Employment Requirements

 

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

 

• Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.

• Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution

• Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment

• Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)
